Weekend Get A Way for Families
August 28 – September 1, 2003
ITINERARY
Thursday, August 28
1:00 pm Meet up at the Port Authority building in Manhattan with all the other families who will attend the weekend program, and board your buses to travel to Lake Luzerne (the buses will depart at 2 pm) Upon arrival, settle into your rooms. While dinner is prepared, join us and some local Lions for a snack, some welcoming remarks from the organizers, and a few ice-breaking activities to get to know one another.
7:00 pm Dinner. The evening program will continue with some short demonstrations by our arts facilitators to introduce you to the kind of work they do, and to give you a taste of the workshops you’ll be participating in during the next days. The evening will conclude with a relaxed and fun dance party.
Friday, August 29
7:30-8:30 am We invite you to join the camp staff for a walk to the camp’s farm, and help feed the animals. This is an optional activity; if you’d like to join, you can sign up for wake-up calls the night before.
8:00-9:00 am Breakfast.
9:10 am Morning Announcements. Make sure you get to the dining hall on time so you don’t miss any important information!
9:30 am We will split into two groups and engage in arts workshops. The Vanaver Caravan Dance Company and their friends will take you on a voyage of world dance and more. Bond Street Theater Coalition will invite you to the circus world and teach you some exciting skills.
12:00 pm Lunch, followed by some down time to refresh yourself and get ready for the afternoon.
1:30 pm This afternoon you can enjoy the many opportunities and activities offered by the camp. You can choose from trying the ropes course, horseback-riding, boating, trail-hiking, swimming, basketball, volleyball or kickball. You can sign up for each of these activities in the morning, during Morning Announcements.
3:15 pm Visual arts session – an introduction into Mexican Paper Mache arts by Miguel Cossio.
5:15 pm Board the buses for a short ride to the Painted Pony Ranch to participate in a Texas Barbeque dinner and attend a rodeo night, starting at 8 pm.
Saturday, August 30
7:30-8:30 am We invite you to join the camp staff for a walk to the camp’s farm, and help feed the animals. This is an optional activity; if you’d like to join, you can sign up for wake-up calls the night before.
8:00-9:00 am Breakfast.
9:10 am Morning Announcements.
9:30 am We swap Friday’s groups so now, those who worked with Vanaver yesterday experience Bond Street’s work, and the other way around!!!
12:00 pm Lunch.
1:15 pm Board the buses to transfer to Great Escape and the Splashwater Kingdom for a full afternoon of fun. You are our guests for the admission fee and the rides it includes.
6:00 pm Meet up at the entrance of the park and transfer back to the camp for dinner (please have respect for your fellow campers by being on time!). The evening will conclude with a dance party presented by our resident DJ, James Young.
Sunday, August 31
7:30-8:30 am We invite you to join the camp staff for a walk to the camp’s farm, and help feed the animals. This is an optional activity; if you’d like to join, you can sign up for wake-up calls the night before.
8:00-9:00 am Breakfast.
9:10 am Morning Announcements.
9:30 am This morning we’ll split into three groups. Those children who are younger than 13 and have lost a loved one on September 11 are invited to join Christine Dernederlanden and for Hank Van Moorsel for their session called "Where is Robert?". Others will get to try facepainting with Miguel Cossio or mask making with Luanne Dietrich.
11:15 am After the break, Christine and Hank will work with the teenagers, while Miguel and Luanne welcome everyone else to their workshops of face-painting and mask-making.
1:00 pm Lunch, followed by some downtime to refresh yourself and get ready for the afternoon.
2:30 pm This is another afternoon to take advantage of the camp’s facilities and try what you didn’t try before. You can sign up for the activities in the morning, during Morning Announcements.
6:00 pm Dinner, followed by an on-stage performance of Bond Street Theater’s Travels with Tricksters. After the show, we invite you to please join us for a special farewell ceremony on the waterfront.
Monday, September 1
8:00-9:00 am Breakfast. Then your chance to pack!
10:00 am Board the buses and head back for New York. You will be dropped off at the same location at which we met on Thursday. We hope that you had a wonderful time, the memory of which will go along with you for a long time to come! Good-bye!
